Perissa Beach

Perissa beach stretches for 1.7 kilometers. It is bordered to the northeast by the mountain Mesa Vouno and to the southwest it merges with Perivolos beach.

The beach in Perissa is black and consists of fine black gravel throughout its course. Because of its color, the sand gets very hot in high summer and you should wear shoes all the way to the sea, otherwise you can quickly burn the soles of your feet.

The water in the sea is very clear, this is due to the excellent water quality and the fact that the fine gravel in the water is hardly stirred up.

There is very little natural shade on Perissa beach. However, umbrellas and sunbeds are rented by practically every taverna and beach bar. Prices vary, and in the off-season they are often offered for a certain amount. Between the sections with umbrellas and sunbeds there are always free spaces where you can put up your own umbrella.

Perissa does not have a beach promenade, but a small street that runs directly behind the beach. Fortunately, the road is closed to cars and motorcycles in the evenings during the high season.

All day a crowd of beach vendors offer their goods and services on the beach, from watches to sunglasses to massages you get something offered all day.

Eating and drinking at Perissa Beach

Behind the beach runs a street, which is also used in the evening as a car-free "promenade", along which there are several restaurants and beach bars. The offer is varied and ranges from traditional taverns to trendy places. We liked the "The Volcano" and the "Aqua". In the off-season, you can often use the sun loungers of the beach bars and restaurants for free if you order something there.

Perissa Beach Hotels and Rooms

Directly behind the beach is the town of Perissa, here you can rent accommodation. The prices are depending on the location a bit higher, but not as high as in Oia, Thira or Kamari.
